Importadora y Exportadora de la Patagonia

Argentina

Sociedad Anónima Importadora y Exportadora de la Patagonia was founded in Punta Arenas,
Chile, in 1908, but soon moved to Argentina. Known from early days, due to its long name, simply as
"La Anónima", it owned general stores and a fleet of freighters carrying cargo and passengers
along the coast of Patagonia. The shipping business was closed down in the 1970s, but La Anónima
is still active, nowadays as an owner of one of the largest chains of supermarkets in Argentina.
