Sterling European Airlines

Sterling European Airlines was formed in 1994 from the assets of the old Sterling Airways, which had gone bankrupt in 1993. In the early 2000s, Sterling European transformed itself from a charter airline into a successful low-cost carrier. It merged with another Danish airline, Maersk Air, in 2005, continuing as just Sterling Airlines. Due to the world financial crisis in the autumn of 2008, Sterling ceased operations. The Sterling brand, landing slots and some other assets were bought by Cimber Air, which was known as Cimber Sterling from 2009 until its bankruptcy in 2012.
