Aero Espresso Italiana, founded in 1923, opened the route Brindisi-Athens-Istanbul in 1926, later joined by a route to Rhodes, also via Athens. In 1935, the airline was absorbed by Ala Littoria, the recently-formed national airline of pre-war Italy.
